Business man with Consumers

    Recently petrol price had increased and it affect cost of goods. There are some business decide to increase their selling price to maintain their profits. But there are some of the business man refused to increase their products price. They decided to maintain the price or even decided to decrease price also. So the problem is to increase products price because of the petrol price that had increased is it ethical or unethical? How much or what are the range should product price have been increased if it is ethical?

    In my point of view, I think that to increase or not to increase price when the petrol price had increase is actually just to influence and affect a business’ profits. Business man will mark up their products price certain percentages to earn profits.

    It is actually a cycle. When the cost increase, it means that business man have to spend more to buy their stocks. If business man decide to increase the selling price, consumers have to spend more money to purchase. Because of consumers have to spend more money to purchase especially for daily usage products, it will increase their cost of living. But if the business man decide to maintain the selling price or even decrease the price, it will help consumers to overcome and to decrease their cost of living.

    Business man decide to increase price of products because of the petrol price had increased. They want to maintain their profits so they transfer the costs to the consumers but for those consumer that have no other ways to purchase or no solution, they will have to pay higher price to get the products. Those who are low income group of people or those people that received fixed salary decide to continue purchase those products that had increase price might not able to afford the expenses. If they cannot looks for extra income, they have to control their expenses.

    Even the petrol price had increased, it might increase a little bit of the transportation costs but when the business man decided to increase selling price, they will earn a lots from there while cover the costs. For example, it is usual to happen on foods. Price of vegetables that sells in market had increase at least 50 cents per kilogram and just because of the petrol had increase 20 cents per liter.  How much the transportation costs had increase from there? Lets say it transfer from a farm that 10 kilometers away from the markets. Petrol price increase 20 cents x 10 kilometers = RM 2. It is just increase of RM 2 for the transportation. But the seller had earn 50 cents x 10 kilograms RM 5. The seller had increase another RM 3 for profits. Maybe not every seller do so but there are some seller purposely do so.

    Actually it can be understood by the consumer that business man benefits had to be taken care but in a ways where at the same time consumers also can afford. Because of petrol price had increase, products selling price also increase but consumers’ income did not increase. Why? Business and company owners’ benefits had to be taken care but those consumer that only received salary where they still have to afford different expenses such as taxes, rental, petrol, insurances, food and beverages.

    Nowadays, a lunch in Kuala Lumpur will easily cost at least RM 10 per set (included rice/noodles with a drinks). My friend also tried a mixed rice that cost RM 10 without beverages. Let’s calculate, if one meals costs at least RM 10 per set, consumer that work 5 days per week and in a month with 4 weeks, it will cost RM 10 X 5 DAYS X 4 WEEKS = RM 200 just for lunch. After added different expenses, for a consumer that get RM 2,500 as salary per month can still survive?

    What a consumer can do with the balance of RM50? The statement above is just some part of their expenses. So do consumers need to have some saving for future? But how they can save when they don’t have balance from their salary?

    Maybe become an employee nowadays, we as consumer cannot survive easily. That’s why people nowadays will rather start their own business. Although to start a business is not easy but the money can earn from a business will more than their salary then only they can survive in the society. Why? This is because they can mark up their price.

    So how should a seller react on their products selling price after the petrol price had increase? As mentioned in above it is reasonable for seller to increase price but the price had to be affordable by the consumers. If the seller just consider about their profits they might been boycott by the consumer. If the costs had been increase to a level where seller cannot afford, the seller can transfer some costs to the consumer. But not every time when there are different price had increase. Some times government had give some subsidies to the seller also.

    I think it should be fair to the people to respect each other’s but not to gain each other’s benefits. So when the petrol price increase in a range where it can be afforded by the business man it should not all transfer to consumer that survive hardly in the society.

Treasure or not ???

“1 out of 3 abandoned by children” (New Straits Times, Dec 6) According to the article, 1 out of 3 old people that aged 60 and above or about 675,000 old people are abandoned and don’t receive and financial support from their children.

This issues also similar to the issues that I talked about in my previous blog, crime that actively happen in Malaysia nowadays. This two issues are not happen to this extend at the last century and the reasons beside also different.

Firstly, we should find out what are those reasons that forces children nowadays are willing to send their parents in to the welfare homes or not giving any financial support to them. People nowadays are busy working to earn money for higher quality of life. They are busy when they are working and they are still busy after they go back home as they have to continue their work or social activities. People especially those who live in the city are live under stress, they squeeze by their boss, their colleagues, their customers and even stranger. People cannot get angry with what others have did to them as those people are people that they not really know and paying them. But they feel that they can release their stress to their family members and it used to happen to their parents because their parents used to be long-winded on asking them many question. So there are some children that bored and hate with that kind of care then they choose to send their parents to the welfare homes so that they don’t have to face their parent every day.

Sometimes when people are getting old they might powerless in doing things which caused they occur some accident then face mobility problem. It also one of the reasons why the children nowadays will send their parents to welfare homes. They are not patient to take care of their parents’ daily activities from meals, hygiene and etc. Some of them will also feel disgusting when they have to help their parent to clean their excreta and sometimes they said they are smelly also. Some children that like party or bring friends to their house will also feel that their parents will hinder them to having fun and also it will be very embarrassing if their friend saw their parents that are mobility. To avoid that situation happen, they will rather send they parents to welfare homes.

But it is still acceptable if the children sending their parents to the welfare homes if they are busy and have no time to take care of their parents. Especially those old people who already retire and have nothing to do, they need people to care about them and talk to them. If the children that are really busy in working, it is another solution for them to provide their parents a more comfortable and enjoyable life by sending them to the welfare homes. If the children can afford the high fees, there are many welfare homes nowadays that have a comprehensive and variety of facilities such as karaoke room and also games room. Old people can get to know more friends to have interesting activities together. Sometimes welfare homes also provide classes for the old people to enrich their skills and knowledge to keep them up to date.

It also acceptable if the reason why they send their parents to the welfare homes is because of they don’t know the right way to take care of their parents that need good treatment to recover especially for those old people that are sick. Sometimes those old people that are sick, they need special care like medicine and also treatment to help them to recover. It might need some machine to do so but for normal people that don’t know how to operate the machine it cause some difficulties to them. They can consider to send their parents to those welfare homes with professional nursing services to take good care with their parents.

About sending parents to welfare homes is right or wrong, it really depend on how the children think about it. If those children are sending their parents to the welfare homes because they feel annoying with their parents and they don’t pay the fees (which may cause their parents being drive away from the welfare homes and cannot go back home after that) and never or rarely visit their parents after they send their parents to the welfare homes then it consider as wrong. Because they are sending their parents to the welfare homes they don’t want to take the responsibilities of taking care of their parents. But if children are forced to do so because of ability and certain reasons such as to provide better environment to their parents and they did always visit their parents when they are free, for me it consider as right.

It is a better solution to send old people to welfare homes compare to leaving the old people in house especially those who have difficulties in daily activities. There are some cases that happen whereby the old people are die because of they happen some accident when they are alone in the house and no one found out and they miss the chance to rescue the old people. Some people who are cruel would let their parents that might have some disabilities to settle the daily activities themselves. For example, the children just prepared food for their parent that getting weaker whereby they are not able to eat themselves.( They don’t even have the energy to take the spoon) There are also some children that are not concern with their parents and they don’t send their parents to the hospital or clinic if they are injured but just let the wound to become more serious.

The first concept of having welfare homes is to provide solution and bring convenient for those busy working children to taking care of their old parents. But now we can see that they are some people that looking at it as a way to abandoned their parents that is a burden for them. Some children will send their parents to the welfare homes just because of their couple or partner don’t like. There are also some old people being abandoned because of their children don’t want to take the responsibilities of taking care of them (which used to see in television program or drama). There are also others reason like the old people are not contributing in the family but spending a lot, the old people are to annoying and etc.

What happen to the people nowadays? Is there any problem with our current education? Why this kind of unethical behavior will happen on people nowadays in this advanced century? Don’t they feel guilty on what they have did? Don’t they have even one minutes that recall back their childhood memory of how their parents take care of them? Don’t they even thought of it might be a life cycle whereby how they treat their parents now it will happen on them also? People nowadays become very selfish and money doctrine which make them concern on their own benefits only. We should review things that we have did and identify it is right or wrong? If it is wrong how we should do to correct it? We should consider how if we are in that situation, how we would like others to treat us? In Chinese, there was a proverb that conclude that if we have old people in our family we seems like have a treasure. Why it state like this? Because old people are more experience than us and they faced through what we are facing now.

How we can solve this abandoned problem? Is it by what had included in the New Straits Times (Dec 9), “Pension can prevent destitution in old age”???

first blog on my personal point of view

In this first personal reflective blog entry, I would like to first talk about what I feel during the previous class and what I look forward in this class. Once I know that we are going to have a debate in future, actually I like this kind of activity because i never try that before. I also would like to have more small activity but I realize I cannot say that I would like to have many activities if not Ms Diana will say that nowadays students brings a lot of trouble to her. Some of them want activities and some of them don’t want. Haha.

In class, Ms Diana asked us to sit slightly face to each other rather than facing to the white board. It really different for me and it bring convenient and encourage us to speak out our opinion and discuss on a topic. So in the future class, maybe we can have a small discussion on a topic. It can be only 10-15 minutes and in small group. It can encourage us to think more, and also a preparation for the debate.    

I actually have one thought about poor and rich. There are many rich people and some even in top 10 richest. For them, their assets with or without one digit number will actually not bring to much impact to them.(For example 1 millions and 1.1 millions) For me, their living style sometimes is too over. For example, some of them will have one long table of foods as breakfast which they cannot finish while there are some people in this world have nothing to eat and they die because of hunger. There are also some rich man that have more than 10 maids, more than one cars and more than one houses, some even with their own private aeroplane which they might not using. I had thought before with only 1% of their assets, if they can donate out it can help up to 10 units of family to live better. There are some countries that have problem with people in the country some of them are too poor but there are also some that are too rich, then why those who are rich don’t donate some to those who are poor? Then the differences between the people in the country will decrease. But this is only a thought which i start thinking since few years ago and i just feel like to share through this blog. ><

Sometimes through drama, we can saw how the company work even ethically or unethically. Companies main objectives is to gain profits but sometimes there are people who are too greedy where they might make some decision that brings benefits to them without consider about others safety and benefits. For example it happened many times in different countries where there are some contractors they want to save costs and they just use lesser materials where they never concerns about those who are going to stay or move in. Then some cases because of that happens and sometimes it cause death also. That why some time those people that are poor or don’t have power in the society might be scarified and bully by those who are richer and powerful.

Next, I would like to share my thought about ethics. From organisation site of ethics, we as a consumer will usually evaluate an organisation through their way of doing things and their activity. Now in the society, there are many scam which they tried many ways and come out with different strategy and sometime it is more systematic and professional compare to a proper business company. I will usually think why they won’t put the efforts on do the right things? And why they can cheat other assets that might very important to them. While those people just sit back and enjoy?

This situation can also can apply on those ungrateful thieve and robber. Why they would take the risk of go into jail of stole, steal and rob others belongings and sometime even don’t bother about others safety. There are recently many cases happen that those thieves and robber will hurt people before their stole or rob. This situation was not happen so serious and frequently last century. As what I heard from my parents, they will even walk to school by themselves for 30 minutes distances away from house and they don’t have to actually close the doors during day time. Now in this society, not only we have to close our doors, we still have to close our windows, add locks and also install closed-circuit television (CCTV). Not only that, nowadays people cannot put their bags in their car as people might broke their cars window and sometimes no matter you are carrying a hand bags or back bags you will get rob also.

The level of safety and securities nowadays is getting decrease and weak and people were in a risk that they might get rob anytime and anywhere. Why those robber and thieves would do that? There are also people that are poor and lack of money but they still working to earn money but those robbers and thieves they just do so to get money faster. It might be a circle where you rob others for their value belongings and others might also rob your family members for their belongings too. Where their ethics go? And since when they had been teach that they can get what they wants through these “shortcuts”???

After all, I think I not really thought about personal ethics. For me their ethics might be influence when they work in a company that come with negative organisation culture. Or some cause by their environmental but it is impossible to say that it teach by their teachers. But some they might be influence by their family influence if their family members also did that. Then only people will have those negative mind set and it also case that used to happen in an organisation. For me, i don’t think that lie to others will bring too much negative impacts unless it consists of cheating others assets and beliefs. What I mean by lie that not really unethically is u don’t tell others the truth for their own good or what we actually think.

As what had been taught in class, there are different level of ethics and I think most important ethics is we have to accept and agree with what we do. We actually have to do things that we think are right and will not regret until the day we die so that we can have a meaningful life.
